I just ordered our birth certificates and marriage verification docs. We tried to order them last night but the website for ordering John's certificate wasn't loading so we had to postpone til today.
For John's birth certificate, I went to VitalChek.com - apparently you're supposed to be able to order docs from this website for any state. His was simple to set up: Name, date of birth, city, state, count, name of parents, etc. I wanted to also try and get our marriage license thru this website, but was unable to.
For my birth certificates, I went to TexasOnline.com and the infomation requested was insane! On top of what I needed for John, I also had to add tons of details about my driver's license and I had to write in my name and maiden name a million times over. Ridiculous. I also added to my order our marriage "verification letters" - which better be like a certified copy (which we're supposed to have) or I want my money back.
All in all, here's the total price:
John's Certificate
- $20 for the 1st copy
- $20 for the 2nd copy
- $6 random fee
- $6 random fee
- $20 UPS Air (It was either this or first class mail)
My Certificate
- $22 for 1st copy
- $20 for 2nd copy
(If I had ordered it through VitalCheck.com, it would have had a $10 random fee)
Marriage Verification
- $20 for the 1st copy
- $20 for the send copy
- $8.00 expidite shipping for this and my birth certs
So, ordering locally is definitely better matched.
